Role Description
Trovata is looking for a highly motivated Controller to join our Finance organization. As part of the Finance team, reporting to the CFO, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, while building a scalable accounting function, establishing an effective internal control environment, and implementing process improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in developing the accounting functional areas, including treasury, revenue, AR, AP, payroll, tax, GL, close, technical accounting, and internal controls
- Lead and review a timely and accurate month-end close and consolidation process
- Responsible for the preparation of financial statements and internal and external financial reporting
- Ensure proper accounting for general ledger transactions in accordance with GAAP, including oversight and preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis
- Manage cash and investment activity and reporting, ensuring proper accounting, effective internal controls, and review of timely bank reconciliations
- Manage timely reporting of cash flow activities
- Drive procurement processes improvement initiatives, including establishment of procurement controls
- Support the proper recording of stock-based compensation expense and equity transactions, including the completeness of financial statement disclosures
- Perform monthly financial statement analysis to ensure completeness and accuracy of department, subsidiary, and consolidated financial reporting
- Support global expansion initiatives, including subsidiary accounting, statutory compliance, and establishing internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Accountable for both domestic and international federal, state, and local tax filings and reporting requirements
- Oversee world-wide sales commissions and payroll processing, ensuring effective processes and controls
- GL Management, including chart of accounts, subsidiary ledgers and other ERP integration tools and sub-ledgers
- Lead external audits, including coordination of the annual financial audit
- Create and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and process flow documentation
- Establish, monitor, and maintain internal controls
- Assist other departments with various accounting needs and questions
Requirements
- BA/BS in Accounting
- An experienced accounting leader with 12+ years progressive accounting experience in a fast-paced and rapidly changing business environment
- CPA preferred
- Experience with subsidiary accounting, intercompany activity and statutory reporting, a plus
- 4+ years in public accounting strongly preferred
- Thorough knowledge of US GAAP accounting and reporting requirements, including preparation of financial statements. Specifically, understanding of Software revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, equity transactions, and other typical accounting issues for fast growing technology start-ups
- Experience with NetSuite and SalesForce, a plus
- Experience managing the monthly, quarterly, and yearly accounting close process
- Strong understanding of internal controls and SOX compliance
- Experience with establishing new workflows and scalable accounting processes
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with various areas of an organization
- Track record of identifying and implementing process improvement initiatives
- Prioritize and solve problems with little supervision
- Able to function effectively both independently as well as with a team
- Demonstrated performance of accounting research, conducting investigations sufficient to recommend change in accounting policies, practices, and procedures
- High degree of flexibility and customer service attitude
- Well-developed oral and written communication ability
